High Rise Apartment Project
Supply Partner: Miral Srl
Product: MWRD VS – Water Loop Heat Pump
Product description: Residential Construction business is heating up in the UK, acquaria and Miral are completing the necessary laboratory test to be ready for next phase.
ASSIGNMENT
Propose a solution for a 30 stores apartment building for the supply of Heating, Cooling and DHW, as a decentralized solution, no units on the facade, no units on the roof. Minimum amount of refrigerant within the building. Maximum efficiency.
STATUS
New unit designed, developed and tested.
PROJECT

The design was to exploit the concept of the Water Loop Heat Pump (WLHP) in order to achieve maximum efficiency by the balance of heat gain/heat rejection at the building level. Having a building water loop at a neutral condition will allow minimum energy level consumption and maximum energy compensations among apartments. With a heat pump to ensure the water loop is balanced for the extreme temperatures.
The Water Loop allows a single Monoblock unit designed for indoor installation. The plug-and-play level of installation was eased due to the design enabling first fix of the pipework, that can be flushed and cleaned before the unit is installed in the final fix.
The unit has been designed to offer heating water for all scenarios (UFH, FCU, radiators), with the added option of Cooling using fancoils. The inbuilt tank for system hot water ensures that the apartment can be heated whilst taking a shower or running any DHW. The mains fed DHW supply is not mixed with dedicated storage energy, but is utilised for at least 3 showers in a row. As the DHW water is not stored and is nearly instant, this eliminate Legionella risk and all the tasks deriving from it heat up cycles and loss of efficiency. There is no requirement to heat up by the backup immersion heater once a week. Therefore, the WRAS requirements are minimized by avoiding the storage of DHW. When cooling is used in the apartment, the rejected energy provides “free” DHW production.
The unit has been designed for the residential market, with the low noise and the ease of servicing, and component changing. The unit can also fit through a standard door.
